Congratulations to BEACON on receiving a Certificate of Appreciation from the California Military Department in recognition of its continued service and support.

For more than 15 years, BEACON has helped operate food services at the Camp San Luis Obispo Dining Facility, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner in support of the Grizzly Youth Academy.

Showing up every day

That means doing the daily work institutional food service requires: preparing, cooking, and serving meals, cleaning, maintaining food-service standards, and keeping an essential operation running reliably.

Led by Rob Mead, the operation has also provided employment for more than 13 individuals with disabilities earning a living wage.

More than an employment program

Stories like this are a reminder of what California’s Community Rehabilitation Programs (CRPs) bring to State government. CRPs are capable service providers delivering essential services every day, including food service, janitorial, landscaping, document services, warehousing, and more.

BEACON’s partnership with the California Military Department shows what that looks like in practice: quality service, dependable performance, and meaningful employment working together.

The CRP community is grateful to the California Military Department for its continued partnership and congratulates Rob and the entire BEACON team on this well-deserved recognition.

A SIMPLER PATH TO PROCUREMENT

What is State Use?

State Use is a procurement method that allows California agencies to contract directly with qualified nonprofit Community Rehabilitation Programs, without the traditional competitive bid process, while fully meeting procurement requirements.
